tracer ammo

I was looking through the forum and first I read the wax ammo thread and then I read the ammo made with glow sticks and it made me think.

If you melted wax and then added the glow stick mix into it and let it cool, do you think the wax would glow when you shot it?

Why did you post two of the exact same topic :? . And I do not think it will work. if it does it will be glowing so faint it will hardley be noticeable

Try a sparkler and a spud...You will probably need a metal barrel though..

I made two because they were bitching about it being in the wrong forum and I would close the other one but I don't know how to.

IDK about that whole sparkler Idea, I like more on the small scale specifically paintball ones. do you think the sparkler would even reliably ignite?

when I go home for christmas (I am in the marine corps just so you know) I may test this out a little bit. What I am worried about is that maybe the heat would start to breakdown the alcohols that make up the glowstick fast and they would rapidly lose their glow.

Those glow sticks are filled with liquid, and upon setting I would think it would separate into layers. You could get some glow powder from here www.unitednuclear.com and mix it into wax ammo.

BtB good to see you back!

I'm not sure if I really trust myself in the handling of nuclear materials. I think I may try to see if i can get the glowsticks to work and if not then I may venture into nuclear work

IDK, its kind of expensive but if the glowsticks don't work then I am definitely gonna buy some of that stuff! If what they say is true then it will be money well spent, I may even get the paint and paint the gun with it.

That also gives me an idea, paint the outside of the wax shells with a watered down version of that paint to make them glow

I've used glow powder in paint before, it's easy to handle just don't inhale it. If you go with it, were at least a paper mask incase of accidental cloud. Ebay allways has it for some good prices -- Ebay link.

thank jrrdw, i think you guys are convincing me to just use the powder shit to make it work.

First thing though is i need to build a simple inline combustion since i gave my old one away when I joined up, easy fix though. then it is testing time.

get some 3/4 sch.40 then make some molds for shotgun slug shapes fitted for 3/4" and shoot some paintballs through it and then go for my wax slugs that glow

Heres a question for FEAR_Sniper:

Do you want ammo that glows in the dark OR do you want to see a "line" of dust in the air from your ammo? If you want a glow-in-the-dark ammo, then go with the paint. But if your wanting a cool "tracer" ammo with a line of glowing dust then go with the Phosphoscent Powder.

P.S. if you do make the tracer ammunition, then you gotta post a video on here!

Good idea Bountyhunter, only maybe paint half of it or use a small amount of the glow powder in a small section instead of making the whole thing glow.Although it wont work on shaped ammunition unless you have a rifled barrel or use dark like ammunition.

I really want to make it just like a tracer but now that you say something it would be pretty cool to see a line of dust blowing out the back. I can make a rifled barrel and fire a couple different kinds just to see whats up.

I will make a video when i do get this whole thing up and running

Do you guys remember the video sgort87 made of him/someone shooting the blue glow stick? It looked like one big long blue streek across the sky, it was awsome looking! I've heard of people making candles and mixing glow powder in, put a black light behind it, wicked looking!!!

I think a streak of glowing green would be the best outcome

P.S. rna_duelers: your right, the "slug" ammo would need a rifled barrel, but if your not up to the work you can try to make the ball ammo into a tracer, well good luck with this nifty project
