Hi I'm really new, just joined like 5 minutes ago, and I was wondering since epoxy can stand up to like 1500 psi, do you think it will make a good chamber?

The same kind of way glass might make a good chamber?

It's strong but brittle. Making a whole chamber of significant size out of unreinforced epoxy doesn't sound like a good idea.

PS: what if I reinforce it with PVC?

You may as well just make the whole chamber out of PVC then.

I mean so the PVC doesn't explode when I bring it to high pressures or cold weather. I live in Michigan so I'm in a snowstorm right now

Pvc can already stand pretty high pressure. Reinforcing it with epoxy won't help that much. If you want really high pressures, just use metal. Getting pvc coated in epoxy is going to be really hard to get it in a even layer.

Maybe you can make your normal chamber out of PVC then add a larger pipe on the outside of the chamber pipe. Fill the space in between the chamber and other pipe. The chamber should then be able to withstand higher pressures.

But, besides that, if you're trying to go for high pressures (say, higher than 150psi) your best bet would be to invest in metal.

like hubb017 said, just spend an extra few dollars on some iron, steel, or copper pipe. it will withstand the cold much better.

You could wrap fiber glass mesh with fiber glass epoxy resin around the pvc chamber,let it set up than paint it....That ,I think would protect you from explosion?????It would increase the strength of the chamber a bit...I have seen pressure vessels that had fiber glass renforced skin on them.....

OK Don't even bother trying to find a work around, it's not worth your time or money or limbs.

Simple. No PVC/reinforced PVC in the cold.

If you want to fire PVC in the cold, make it metal.

Simple as that, NO PVC. All metal. And no epoxy as well.

Don't ask how to reinforce PVC or is there another way, because there is no real practical and cheap way.

Just use metal.

umm i dont think you would ant to make a chamber u might wan to use epoxy to reinforce with some kevlar if ur using aabs( do not reccomend) but ur better off just using a good ole pvc or large water bottle chamber

Argh, okay 5* did you read mine or anyone elses posts?

We already have said not to try and reinforce the chamber!

Kevlar is expensive, and we don't want the gun to explode full stop, so reinforcing it is not an option.

ABS would be fine in the cold, but not for pneumatic, and because it rips and not shrapnels you wouldn't really need to reinforce it in the first place.

Good ol' pvc in the cold explodes, that's why he was discussing about reinforcing it in the first place you (insert nasty comment here).
And that's presumably why you also said to reinforce it even though I said that was no longer an option.

Soda bottles aren't pressure rated, I would not recommend using one full stop, and in the cold it wont be any better.

Please read the whole thread next time, and make sure you have some clue to what you are talking about when you post or i'll just delete your posts.

Okay, I guess the answers metal. well then, as soon as i can get out my driveway(the garage door wont open because of all the snow!), ill go get some. ill be posting my first gun soon, wish me luck(or not)!

anyway, I would not recommend an epoxy chamber.

shards of epoxy would not feel very good in your stomach.

I'm in ann arbor. Where do live? Yeah I can't wait to have a snow day lol.
And yeah again for the epoxy shards in my stomach, it wouldn't feel very good
