The Yellow Perch

Named for its distinctive colouring this cannon was a latheless project. I insisted that I could do a O-ring groove without the assistance of a lathe and this is what happened.

The piston is a 1 1/4 PVC coupler with two sheet PVC discs all cut on my drill press. I ended up using the male and female adapters due to not being able to cut a good O-ring in the endcap. I used a 2" galvanised bushing as an endcap with a forty pound return spring. The T is ported at 1 1/4" and 2" and is one mean mofo. I'll be posting some damage shots later.

The gun features a five and a half foot 1 1/4 barrel at the present and a two and a quarter 2" chamber. A check valve is installed as well as an onboard pressure gauge, 1/4 QEV, and is piloted and filled at a 1/2 ball valve. Not as nice as some of my lathed projects but those are kept under wraps for the time being.

I plan on adding a more powerful QEV (or at least larger) and a breech.

very nice. get a marble barrel, and see what it'll shoot through. nice piston valve, and exceptional work on the piston. what size tee is the valve in, 2"?

You don't need a QEV for something like that. It'll perform better with the piston valve, and when people ask about it, you can still say the whole thing is homemade. And why the yellow perch? I know it's a fish, but that kind of makes no sense whatsoever. If it was yellow....

He obviously means an exhaust with the QEV. Looks good. I like how clean the piston is.

Spudstuff nailed it. As to the name, try googling a yellow perch and you'll see what I mean. It's a silver fish with slight yellow sheen, just like the gun. The picture quality is fairly bad to be honest. I used a silver hammered Krylon Fusion paint to achieve a base coat and then dusted it with a light yellow. The whole gun was then clear coated. The ballvalve was chosen due to the yellow handle. A yellow perch has a pronounced yellow tip.

Schmanman, it is a 2" T valve.. Cheaper to go with this project in case I screwed it up. While I like accomplishing this with a drill press I'm going back to the lathe.

I wonder if a perch would fit down the barrel? You might have to roll it up a little
