For my newest project currently being nicknamed Steel Panther, I am making a micro blow gun valve pneumatic with a 1/8"x12" airsoft barrel. Mcmaster has the decibel rating for 100psi and it says 86 for this particular blowgun, theres no way I want to bug everyone with that. So what is the best and most effective way to cut the sound preferably in half? I also want this to be detachable so I can scare the little kiddies with it.
-Butt
Silencing 1/8" Pipe
Keep both ends of the barrel threaded. Then get a 6" long piece of 1/2" PVC and 2 end caps. Get a small brass or aluminum pipe that fits over the threads.
I'm out of time now, I'll tell you how to make it later.

Okay, what's with "-Butt"?

So this gun uses a blowgun to fire a bb?
If that's the case who gives a crap. It won't be loud. Just a sharp "Psh" and that's it.

I made close to the same thing, 1/4"x 9" chamber and a 2 foot barrel with a low flow blowgun (the weird push button one on my coax) and the loudest sound was the BB clinking it's way down the barrel.
And Spudstuff, blowguns have better flow than 1/16," if you put a metal BB in one end and hold it and shake it the BB can fit through and come out the other side. Or maybe it's just with mine.
I completely forgot the lack of silencing needed, but if you really want to know how to make a sliencer (it will look cool to be able to screw it on or off, that would be the only purpose 8) ) I can tell you.

If you really care that much, just go to your local hardware store and buy a replacement lawnmower muffler of the right size to fit onto the end of your barrel... Bore out the junk in the center with a drill and attach it onto the end of your barrel however you please, as long as it's straight and attached firmly. This works well for .22's as well, but you didn't hear that from me.
Peace,
Pete Zaria.

85 dB isn't that extreme.
My brother and I get much more than that (loud enough that ear defenders are necessary when using the cannons or your ears will start ringing, then bleeding), and no one complains - noise dies away very significantly with distance.
Our spudding sessions use a huge piston valved pneumatic at 160 psi, various other assorted cannons, and even pressurized plastic bottles as targets (they explode more impressively, and make an impressive bang.)
Hell, we were firing steel ball bearings into steel plate and we got no complaints from the nearby neighbours.

Novacastrian: How about use whatever the heck you can get your hands on?
frankrede: Well then I guess it won't matter when you decide to drink bleach because your out of kool-aid.
...I'm sorry, but that made my year.
