I already read all those other sprinkler valve modifications on this sites and can't beleave how easy it is, or im i missing something? So after i bought my sprinkler valve i notice that it had the small rod, so all i have to do is drill a hole not in the center coz the rod is there but to the side alittle then fix the blow gun into the hole i just made then epoxy the solinoid hole and the bleed hole, thats it! or what?

thats pretty much it. I prefer the ones that don't have the rod but they work fine. I drill the hole and tap it either 1/8npt or 1/4 npt depending what size fitting you have. If you don't have a tap, drill the hole undersize,sligtly and use it to thread the hole. Be careful you don't have alot of plastic to work with for thread and use teflon tape, I like five wraps counterclock wise.

Please don't listen to him. He has NO idea what he is doing. You apply the teflon tape, so if you are looking at the end of the pipe towards you, CLOCKWISE. That way when you thread the fittings together the tape tightens around the threads.

For the Guide rod.
You need to re install the rod.
Bend one end into a small "L" shape.
Put the rod through the original hole in the diaphram.
Bend the other end into a "L" shape to hold it in.

Most valves it is critical operation of such. In which case removing such would create the valve un-functional. I’m not sure as to SpudStuffs modification, it may in fact work. If at all possible next time just purchase the valve from either Lowes or HD, because there commonly stocked valve is the 1" Female NPT OrbitMaster without a guide rod. It should be noted that you should always use a tap to create threads for a NPT component. Failing to do so can result in a weakened, or leaking joint. There has been a few previous cases of such happening, as in there ignorance they did such. Also if one is so ignorant, you first tap with the fitting, then install the teflon tape.

no, well atleast not in all the valves i have. the rod and the he diaphram havee a small space between them which alows air to pass by and equilize the pressure in front and behind the diapham. if you were to remove it there would be a big hole, with a big hole the pressure on the back side (where the pilot valve is placed) will re-pressurize faster than you can empty it. this would mean the valve will open very slow or not evan open at all.

QEV's are harder to get in America and more expensive arn't they? But are more powerful for there size. I've only seen them on eBay.

McMaster.com. search for "913" that's the page number its on. The QEVs you want are listed on the very bottom of the page. Shipping is generally $4 and should be to you in a few days. They have QEVs from 1/4" all the way to 3/4".

3/4" QEVs are better than 1" sprinkler valves.

I have also gotten a few QEVs off eBay. Two 1.5" QEVs and a 3/4".
