The pressure gauge mounted on my pressure chamber will go from full pressure to zero rather rapidly when the cannon is fired. I wonder if this will be hard on the gauge and cause it to fail prematurely.

I've used oil filled gauges in applications where I had engine vibrations but not pressure snubbers which would seem to be useful in this application.

Does anyone have any experience with gauges failing due to the rapid drop of pressure and should I get an oil filled gauge or pressure snubber?

I feel like it should be fine. If you're worried, you could put a restrictor in the tube to the gauge. This could be as simple as filling a short section of tube with epoxy, poking a needle through, and letting it cure.

A small needle valve would also work.

High speed decompression can damage gauges. My 2 inch QDV is on it's second gauge. The pointer tends to slip on the shaft and no longer properly read zero. I need to add a restriction to my cannon to save gauges. I am considering simply threading the inside of the gauge stem and screwing in a setscrew so leakage will snub the flow.
